Soccer FAQs
1. What age group does my kid fall into?
Age Group is determined by the child’s grade level. Currently PCAA age groups are:
a. K2 = Pre-K and Kindergarten
b. Elementary Beginner = 1st and 2nd Grades
c. Elementary Advanced = 3rd, 4th and 5th Grades
d. Middle School = 6th grade through birthday on or after August 1, 2010.
2. When and where are practices?
Practices will be held at players home school or at Jennings Park located at 144 Dietz Rd, Statesville, NC 28625. Practices are typically held two days each week, and run for an hour, or hour and a half per practice. Final decision regarding which place, days, and times are at the coach’s discretion. One of the benefits to being coach is being able to choose time and place of practices.
3. When and where are games?
All games are held on Friday evenings (between hours 5:30pm to approximately 9:30pm) at Jennings Park located at 144 Dietz Rd, Statesville, NC 28625.
There will be 6 games for each team and a tournament for each age group.
4. What all does my kid need before practices start?
Every kid needs a soccer ball and shin guards.
a. Little Kickers and Elementary Beginners: size 3 soccer ball
b. Elementary Advanced: size 4 soccer ball
c. Middle School: size 5 soccer ball
d. Shin guards depend on child’s size, should cover shins approximately 2 inches above foot and two to three inches below knee.
e. Soccer cleats. NOTE: soccer cleats are not the same as baseball or football cleats, they do not have a toe cleat which is a risk to other players when playing soccer. Soccer cleats are encouraged but not required. Tennis shoes can be worn. Turf soccer cleats are also allowed.
5. What all does it involve being a coach?
a. PCAA requires a clean background check that is paid for and ran by the league.
b. Concussion training which is taken online and takes approximately 40 minutes at no charge. (Link is provided in coaches paperwork and guide upon sign up).
c. Sexual Harassment training which is taken online and takes approximately 40 minutes at no charge. (Link is provided in coaches paperwork and guide upon sign up).
d. ALL coaches must complete all certifications and have cleared background check before season starts unless otherwise directed by PCAA President.
e. Attend coaches meeting at the that will be scheduled before the start of the season at a TBD location.
6. When does the season start?
Fall Soccer
a. Practices will start the week of August 26th.
b. Games will start Friday evening on September 13th and Saturday September 14th.
c. Season will end with a tournament that will take place the last weekend of October or first weekend of November.
Spring Soccer
a. Practices start the week of Presidents Day in February
b. Games start the first Friday of March
c. Season will end with a tournament that takes place mid May. This season will end before school is out for summer.
7. Do I need experience with soccer to coach?
a. Absolutely not! There are many videos on YouTube providing ideas for drills and games that can be used at practices to teach your young players the game. Many of these are fun and, hey, you are at practice with your child anyway, why not participate?
b. The Mojo app that can be downloaded on your smart phone is also a good tool and provides practice ideas, a way to communicate with parents and can even help set up each practice that will tell you what drill/game to do for how long.
8. When will uniforms come in?
Uniforms are ordered as soon as registration closes, teams are determined with coaches for each team, and confirmation from PCAA Board has been received. Once uniforms are ordered it typically take 7 to 10 days for them to arrive.
9. Is there a cost to get into the games?
Yes, there will be a charge at the gate to enter the fields on game days. The charge will be $5.00 per adult and $2 per Student. There is a $15 Family Cap.
a. Coaches and players will not be charged.
b. 4 and Under, Board Members, Pastors, and Law Enforcement are also free.
10. Is there seating at the soccer fields?
a. All spectators will need to bring their own chairs to the fields. There are no bleachers or other seating available at the fields.
b. Spectators are expected to sit across the field from their teams and at least 3 yards from side lines. No one will be allowed to sit on the player side of the field unless they have a coach’s badge. Additionally, there will be no spectators allowed to sit on the ends of the field.
